Where can I obtain a User guide

A PDF formatted version of the user guide may be downloaded from the Downloads Area by registered Ausgen customers.
Persons who purchase the physical media packages will find it included as part of their package.
The PDF version the user manual for Genota 3.x is no longer available.

Which Microsoft operation systems do Genota and Genota Forms work on

Genota 4 will run on all versions of Windows from Windows XP through to Windows 8.1, and Genota 3 will run on Windows 98 as well.

On Vista and later it is recommended that Genota 4 and Genota Forms 2.x not be installed in the Program Files folder but the Public or C: folder due to restrictions imposed by these 2 operating systems which prohibit the applications from writing necessary configuration information to the Program Files folder.

Genota 5.x and Genota Forms 2.x and above operates on all versions of Windows later than Microsoft Vista.

Installation on Microsoft Vista appears to hang

When updating either Genota or Genota Forms via the CHECK FOR UPDATES option, the installation appears to hang. Should this occur press the CTRL+TAB keys to switch screens as Vista tends to open a dialog behind the Genota/Genota Forms screen waiting for permission to continue.

I cannot open the help file under Microsoft Vista

Microsoft introduced a new format for Help files with the release of Vista® rendering earlier Help formats inoperable. To overcome this issue you need to download and install WinHelp32 for Vista from :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6EBCFAD9-D3F5-4365-8070-334CD175D4BB&displaylang=en
In some instances WinHelp32 may not be able to find the Help file and a dialogue will display to assist in locating it.
Alternatively, registered users can access on-line help located under the Registered Users menu.

How long does it take to receive a product key

An email containing registration details will be received within 24 hours of purchase. Is there a workaround for Default Font Size?

One user has identified an issue causing generation of an error where the Default Font Size field under Option is left blank.
To avoid this issue ensure that the Default Font Size contains a value.

Ancillary information is missing in All Notes reports?

When previewing REPORT > ALL NOTES the Correspondence Log, Research Log, Associated Documents and Included Persons information only appears on the last Note.
Upgrade to Genota 5 release 5.0.2.19 or later.

Notes printing as a jumble of numbers?

In Genota builds 4.3.5.26 and 4.3.5.28 an update to the note editor was found to be incompatible with the report compiler when Notes were saves in RTV format, that being the native format of the Note Editor. This caused Notes created with this build to be saved in RTV format and when printed result in a jumble of numbers. This issue was fixed in build 4.3.6.33 however to fixed the Notes created with the problem perform the following on the specific version of Genota installed.

To fix in Genota 4

Open the Note in question,
Edit the Note Details , e.g, enter a space at the end of a paragraph, and
Save the note.

To fix in Genota 5

Open the Note in question
Save the note.

As the issue is related to interface components and not the database the notes cannot be automatically correctly

Garbled text is appearing in Genota 5 Note Details?

In Genota 5 the Note Details may appear to contain ‘garbled’ text. This will only occur with Notes created in earlier versions of Genota and results for changes to saving and retrieving Notes in Genota 5.
To remedy, open the Note and click on the Note Details so that the SAVE button is activated, then SAVE the Note. At present there is no method to automate this process.

The Person Analysis Report is not sorting correctly?

The Person Analysis Report is designed to report by Event Date, ascending. If, when running this report it is found to be sorting incorrectly, select the menu option FILE > FILE MAINTENANCE > BUILD INCLUDED PERSONS SORT to create the sort file for the report. This function is only available in Genota 5.0.2 and later.

A dialog appears requesting to save data when no changes have been made?

Whenever a note is viewed in Genota 5 a dialog is displayed indicating that the data has changed and requests if it is to be saved, even when no change has been made.
This issue has been fixed in Genota 5.1 however the first time a Note is opened the dialog may appear. Select save and it should not occur again.

Genota is not allowed to run on WinNTx – Setup aborted

This problem occurs because the user access settings within Vista & Win7. To install the software:

  • Right clicking on the downloaded setup file.
  • Choose Properties.
  • Select the Compatibility Tab.
  • Choose to run in XP SP3Mode (or XP SP2 mode).
  • Select Run as Administrator.

Cannot Exit Genota – Build 4.2.1.99

The buttons displayed on the Exit dialog in build 4.2.1.99 operate in the reverse. Select NO to exit Genota.

Genota installation fails with message memory leak …

Genota installation fails and displays a dialog, displaying the message: Memory leak size 336, count 13, Unable to uninstall one or more directories, unable to uninstall one or more files. Try and do this manually.
This only occurs when trying to update from the Internet under builds 4.2.0.35 and 4.2.0.36. Should this dialog display when updating to a newer build, cancel from the dialog and continue with the new installation, or download the evaluation version. If the latter option is taken ensure that Genota is not running when you install the newer version. You can safely install the newer version over your existing version without impact on your data files.

Moving Genota 3.x Notebooks to Genota 4.x

To move Notebooks from Genota 3.x to Genota 4 it is essential that the Genota 3.x data has not been relocated from its initial location. If so, the data path must be either re-established in Genota 3.x using the Set Data Path option. Once complete launch Genota 4.x and select TOOLS | CONVERT FROM GENOTA 3 from the main menu.

I cannot convert all Genota 3 Notebooks into Genota 4 format?

Please ensure that the following conditions exist: 

  • Ensure that the data folder for Genota 4 is different to that used by Genota 3. If unsure, use the reset data path menu option in Genota 4 to create a new data file location.
  • Make sure that you not have not created any Notebooks in Genota 4 with the same name as those in Genota 3. If so, rename them before you try the conversion menu option.
  • If after choosing the conversion menu option only some of the Notebooks transferred it may have been that the problem notebook/s have been created as new Notebooks in Genota 4 with the same names as the Notebooks in Genota 3. If so, rename the problem Notebooks in Genota 4 and select the conversion option again.
Error Messages

Error # 11013 Access denied to table or backup file ‘C:xxxx

Affects Genota 3.2 only. This issue is caused by assigning the root (C:) directory as the data path. Select SYSTEM > RESET DATA PATH and create a new folder from the Set Notebook Path dialog rather than selecting C:’

Could not convert variant of type (Null) into type (Integer)

Genota 4.0.0.22 only. Upgrade to a more recent build.

I get a message relating to the Norton Antivirus Bloodhound.Overpacked virus

Persons using Norton Antivirus may receive an alert that Genota is infected by the Bloodhound.Overpacked virus, which then quarantines Genota. This is a false positive generated by Norton Antivirus and not a virus but a consequence of Norton Antivirus being unable to ascertain the compression used at Ausgen to reduced the size of executable files.
This issue applies only to Genota build 4.2.2.105 and earlier, and Genota Forms 1.0.2.69 and earlier. Anyone affected by this should download the most current version.
